Comeback Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Championship in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a challenging period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's initial title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after March of the previous year.

The win also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was over.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an improved serve.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional title, took control to force a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
